Talent Show

Application Form Due Sunday February 9th (with full audition recording)

This year’s Jamieson Talent Show is a one-show event designed to showcase unique and diverse talents. We are seeking proficiency in chosen talents, with a special focus on group performances and unique acts. Solely string performances will not be a priority during auditions, as we want to highlight other student talents. We would like to see a variety of different acts.

Eligibility

  • Open to all Jamieson students.
  • Talented Jamieson parents are welcome to participate in group performances only as an accompaniment to students.
  • Parents who act as an accompaniment to students for the act does not need an audition
  • Applicants must participate in the audition process to be considered for the show.

Performance Guidelines

  • Group Performances: Acts featuring groups (2 or more) are encouraged and will be prioritized.
  • Every individual performing must submit an application
  • Originality: Unique and creative performances are strongly encouraged and will be
    prioritized.
  • Time Limit: Performances must not exceed 4 minutes.
  • Acts may include (but are not limited to): Singing, Dancing, Instrumental (excluding Strings), Magic, Skits/Drama, Other Creative Talents

Audition Process

Audition Requirement: A recording of a full performing act must be submitted by application deadline (Feb 9th)

  • Act Category Consistency: The audition submission must represent the same category of talent intended for the Talent Show. For example: If your performance is ballet, the recording must showcase you performing ballet, though it does not need to be the exact piece you plan to perform in the show.
  • If performing a group act, each performer can submit their own audition recording (it does not have to be the group act), but those Groups who submit their audition recording as a Group will be prioritized
  • Acts will be evaluated on proficiency, creativity, uniqueness, stage presence, and entertainment value.
  • Due to time limitations, only a select number of performances will be chosen for the final show.
  • If chosen for the final show, the piece of act for the performance must be finalized and details to the talent show committee be provided by March 14, 2025.

Content

  • Performances must be family-friendly and appropriate for all audiences. If your act includes songs with lyrics, the lyrics must be pre-approved.
  • Costumes, music, and themes must reflect the school’s values, code of conduct and be pre-approved.
  • Offensive or inappropriate content will result in immediate disqualification.

Props and Equipment

  • Participants must provide their own props and equipment (e.g., instruments, costumes, etc.). However, piano and set of drums will be provided by the school if acts require it.
  • A sound system and microphones will be available, but additional technical needs must be approved and requested in advance.
  • No hazardous materials, live animals, or open flames are allowed.

Special Performance Act (Final Performance)

  • If you do not want to perform solo or cannot find your own group to perform with but are interested in showcasing your talent, you can sign up to participate in the final act.
  • Simply let us know your talent (e.g., singing or playing an instrument), and we will arrange for a performance piece to be featured as part of the grand finale.
  • If you sign up for this, you will need to send us an audition recording as well as commit to a 2-3 hour practice session prior to the event date.
  • This is a unique opportunity to collaborate with other students in a show-stopping final act!

Registration

  • Students must submit a completed registration (with audition recording) form by February 9th.
  • Registration forms should include details about the act, the number of participants, and any special requirements.
  • Students interested in the special performance act must indicate their talent during registration and submit a recording to show proficiency.

Rehearsals

  • Selected performers must attend a mandatory rehearsal prior to the event.
  • Failure to attend may result in removal from the performance lineup.

Judging Criteria for Audition

Audition performances will be judged on:

  • Talent and Proficiency: Skill level in the chosen talent.
  • Originality: Creativity and uniqueness of the act.
  • Stage Presence: Confidence and engagement with the audience.
  • Entertainment Value: Overall enjoyment and impact on the audience.

General Guidelines

  • Be respectful of other performers, judges, and audience members.
  • Late arrivals may forfeit their performance slot.
  • The decision of the judges for the audition is final and cannot be contested.

Important Notes

  • Solely string performances will not be a priority during auditions this year, as our various strings concerts provide other opportunities to showcase this talent.
  • This event is an opportunity to highlight Jamieson’s diverse talents and creativity, giving all students a chance to shine in front of their families and peers.
  • The special performance act will be a collaborative, show-stopping way to end the event with a celebration of all the talent Jamieson has to offer!
